    Updated On: May 15, 2020
    Brothers and Sisters,
The current pandemic, COVID-19, has had a huge affect on central Florida and our local in particular. We are experiencing our highest unemployment local wide since the recession of 2008. With most of the Walt Disney maintenance workers furloughed and all Walt Disney World construction sites closed, we know you all have questions as to what‘s going on. Local 606 along with the rest of the craft maintenance council is currently negotiating the return of Disney Maintenance workers. There is no set date for reopening, but we know it will be in stages. We expect the job sites to open following the Maintenance workers returning to Disney. Again, we don’t know dates yet. We have entered into an extension of our Inside Working agreement for 30 days. The plan is to give us enough time to get past the pandemic so we can finish negotiations. Our pension fund is down, but significantly less than the rest of the market at about 8% loss and we have taken steps to ensure the security of your retirement fund. Union meetings will resume as soon as restrictions on large gatherings are lifted. Please stay safe and we will continue to navigate this crisis together.
